DIY pressed flower bookmarks

We love to read, and we love beauty.  This year we've had a lot of fun combining the two, getting out into nature and reading The Secret Garden and The Burgess Bird Book aloud.  Naturally, pressed flower bookmarks were the perfect project to stem from these fun excursions.

Materials:
Flowers & Greenery (flatter = better)
wax paper
heavy books
stock paper
glue
scissors or a paper cutter
clear packing tape
pen (optional)

"Look, Mom, Purrple Phuh-lox (phlox)! How beautiful! So manies of dem!" These are memories to keep and cherish!

Our Lead Goofball got really involved with her own creative pressing mechanism.

A couple of weeks later the flowers were pressed and ready to go!

Not everyone was excited about pressed flower bookmarks; Joshua colored a picture of a Cedar Waxwing on his instead.

We chose to write Isaiah 40:8 on the back as a fitting reminder for the pressed flower bookmarks.

Joshua knocked our socks off by composing his first-ever poem for the back of his.

"I am a Cedar Waxwing.
I sit peacefully in the tree.
I'll be fine as long are as
there are berries next to me.
Even though we devour
the cherry trees of the farmer,
When he sees all the bugs we eat,
he says we're a charmer.
We like to travel together,
my parents, cousins and I,
so wave if you see us
in the big, blue sky."

Special memories indeed! And a neat way to mark and keep them.
