Dandelion & Clover Fritters with Cousins

Ever since I heard about wildflower fritters I've wanted to try them.  The thing about such experimentation, though, is that you need others who want to try alongside with you.  My family is not that bunch.  Thankfully, one Nature Study Day with the Cousins blossomed into the perfect opportunity for it. The Cousins are adventurers, especially in the food department.  In retrospect I would've liked to have tried this recipe, but in trying to keep it simple we did this one from ediblewildfood.com instead:

4 cups of fresh picked (washed) dandelion flowers
 2 cups flour
 2 eggs
 2 cups milk

Simplicity allows the flavors to come through, which is what my curiosity was hungry for.  We fried them up, more like pancakes than fritters, and dipped them either in pure Maple Syrup or Dandelion Honey.   The blossoms are more savory than sweet, so next time I think I will definitely add in some vanilla and spices, like cinnamon and nutmeg, cloves or cardamon.  Or we'll try the savory ideas shared here.  My favorite ended up being my niece's brilliant idea to halve the strawberries they just just picked from our patch and fritter those up too.  Delicious! It's so nice to have people with whom to share and improve ideas and adventures!
