KidDIY feeder
Materials:
Your preferred on-hand container;
(we used almond milk boxes)
(we used almond milk boxes)
exacto knife or sharp scissors
bamboo skewer
sturdy string
We cleaned our empty milk boxes and for aesthetic reasons spray painted them and wrote things like "Bon Apetweet" and "happy eating" in various languages. Make a cut into the side and from there cut out a sizable square, leaving enough room on the bottom to hold a good amount of seed. I would probably make ours deeper next time. Repeat on opposite side. Puncture hole beneath square openings and insert bamboo skewer so that ends stick out far enough for perching. Puncture hole at the top and feed string through. Tie a knot, leaving enough string to loop around a branch. Don't leave too much or the feeder will spin and sway. We had one we made too long, or just hung in the wrong spot, and the birds watched it go round and round, few brave enough to venture a go at it. I think one Titmouse succeeded, but not for long.
Fill with birdseed.
Enjoy watching!
The Finches (Gold and House) really enjoyed this feeder when the Nuthatch wasn't bullying them out of it.
Beautiful Birds!
